Straight answers, before you spend anything

Constellation Trail makes character lessons, as PDFs, for parents to read aloud and talk through with their children at home. Each lesson is built around one virtue and starts with a story.

Most stories are true, from history or from the Bible. Some lessons open with a short story we wrote about an ordinary child, and we say so on the page. When a lesson uses a parable, we say that too.

Some lessons stop at a hard choice and walk through both paths. Others tell a complete story or guide a practice week. Your child does the deciding, with you at the table. There is no lecture.

The lessons are written for parents to use with children about 8 to 12. A younger child can often listen along while you read; you know your child best.

The site, the sign-up form and any purchase are for adults. Your child does not need to visit the site or type anything.

Yes. Constellation Trail is written from a Christian point of view, and Scripture shapes what the lessons mean. We tell the story, show the choice, and leave room for your child to think it through with you.

Some stories come straight from the Bible, such as the Good Samaritan and Daniel. Others come from documented history, such as Eric Liddell, Abraham Lincoln and Clara Barton.

Families from any background are welcome to use them. If a story is not right for your family, skip it. Every lesson stands on its own.

No. These are supplemental character lessons for families. They are not a full curriculum, they are not accredited, and they do not by themselves meet any state's homeschool requirements. They are not counseling or professional advice of any kind.

Most lessons are five or six pages; some are longer. Each has the story, questions to talk over together, and one small thing to try during the week. Some lessons tell a story about a hard choice; others are practice weeks.

A Character Unit is longer: thirteen pages on one real person, with the fuller story and the history around it.

A lesson takes about 15 to 20 minutes at the table, plus the small thing to try during the week. A Character Unit takes about 45 minutes in all, plus the week-long challenge; its parent guide suggests reading the story over one or two sittings.

Open it, and read it through once yourself first. A few lessons and units, such as those touching on slavery or a death, ask you to read ahead and decide what your child is ready for.

No special equipment or paid app needed. Read the free lessons online on their pages, or open the PDF in your web browser or a free PDF viewer, on any phone, tablet or computer.

If you like paper copies, the pages are sized for standard letter paper, and black and white is fine.

Opening a PDF

• Windows or Mac: click the PDF link. Most browsers show the PDF in a tab. If it downloads instead, open it from your Downloads folder.
• iPhone or iPad: tap the PDF link to open it in Safari. To keep a copy, tap Share, then Save to Files.
• Android phone or tablet: tap the PDF link. Depending on your phone, it opens in the browser or downloads. If it downloads, open it from the notification or from Downloads in your Files app. A free PDF viewer such as Google Drive also opens it.
• Chromebook or Linux: click the PDF link. Chrome and Firefox show PDFs in a tab.

PDFs may open in your web browser or download to your device.

Yes. The free lessons are free to read and to pass to another family, and free to use in a church, Sunday school, co-op or classroom, with a copy for each child or family. Please do not post the files online; share the link to the lesson page instead. They are Asleep in the Boat, The Good Samaritan, The Extra Ten, The Empty Seat. The rest of the lessons and all the Character Units are in the members' library, for your own household's use. New lessons are added to the member library.

That is 44 lessons and 12 Character Units, plus the bonus Esther lesson. We add new material over time and do not promise dates.

Online, any time. Go to your account page (constellationtrail.com/account/), sign in with the link we email you, click “Cancel membership” and confirm. You can also use the cancel link in your yearly renewal reminder, or the manage link in any receipt from Stripe. You won’t be charged again, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and we email you a confirmation. If you need help accessing your account, email hello@constellationtrail.com.

Choose a plan on the membership page, enter your email, accept the terms and automatic renewal, then continue to Stripe to pay. Every plan includes the same library: every lesson and all twelve Character Units.

Every plan gives your household full library access immediately after payment: all 44 lessons across the twelve virtues (plus the bonus Esther lesson in Courage), all twelve Character Units and the PDF tools listed on the membership page. The 4 free lessons (named in the question about sharing free lessons) are open to everyone.

Membership costs $10 a month or $48 a year.

If your membership ends and you rejoin later, the price available then applies. There are no free trials.

Files you download while you are a member remain licensed for use within your household. Online library access ends when your membership ends.

Before you enter any payment details, checkout shows the price, how often you are billed, that the membership renews automatically until you cancel, how to cancel, and the refund policy. You agree to automatic renewal separately, by ticking a box that is not ticked for you.

After you join, we email you a confirmation with the renewal terms and how to cancel.

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

If a payment fails, Stripe will email you with a link to update your card and will try the payment again, up to 8 times within 2 weeks. You keep access while it tries. If every try fails, the membership ends and the unpaid invoice is cancelled, so you owe nothing for the unpaid period.

About 30 days before each yearly renewal, we email you a reminder with the amount, renewal date and a link to cancel. Monthly members get a reminder from us once a year with the plan, the price and how to cancel. Stripe emails a receipt for each payment.

We may change the price of a plan. A new price applies to new sign-ups straight away. For an existing membership it applies only from a renewal that comes after we email you about it: we email you 30 days before that renewal, with the new price, the date it starts and a link to cancel online. If you do not want the new price, cancel before that renewal and you will not be charged it.

A membership covers one household. Read them on any screen, and make as many copies as your household needs. We do not offer co-op, classroom or church licenses for member materials at this time, so please do not use them with a group. The 4 free lessons are different: churches, Sunday schools, co-ops and classrooms may use them free, with a copy for each child or family; see our Terms.

Membership: full refund within 30 days of your first payment. Renewal charges are refundable if you ask within 14 days of the charge. A full refund of the payment covering your current membership period ends the membership and closes the online library right away. To ask, email hello@constellationtrail.com. Cancel any time before your renewal date and you won't be charged again; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

If we ever stop offering the membership, we will give members at least 30 days' notice by email and refund any unused prepaid period.

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, through Stripe, and Stripe emails you a refund receipt. The full terms are on the Refunds and Terms page.

You can read a free lesson on its page without signing up. To download its PDF, you enter your email address. That also signs you up for our emails: a short welcome series, then occasional lesson and membership updates. You can unsubscribe any time, using the link in every email.

A cookie remembers, for up to 400 days, that you gave your email, so you do not have to enter it each time. It also links your later free downloads to that email.

• Email sign-up: your email address, your first name if you give it, and which page you signed up from.
• Free lesson downloads: which free lessons you download and when, linked to your email. These records are deleted after 13 months.
• Purchases: your name, email, what you bought, and the IP address and time of the order and of each download. The IP addresses are deleted after 13 months. Card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers.
• Visit statistics: pages viewed, the site that sent you, browser, device type, language and approximate location, counted with Umami, a tool we run on our own server. It sets no cookies and never receives names, emails or order details.
• Email activity: whether our emails are opened and which links are clicked.
• Messages you send to hello@constellationtrail.com.
• Server and network logs kept by our host and Cloudflare for security and troubleshooting.

Our Privacy Policy describes what membership stores. It has the full detail.

We do not offer child accounts or ask children to submit information. Sign-up and purchases are for adults only. Visit and security data are collected as described above.

The star map saves its progress in your own browser on your own device. It is never sent to us.

If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it promptly and confirm in writing.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We use no advertising pixels, no retargeting and no session recording.

A few companies handle it only to provide their service to us: Hostinger (web host), Cloudflare (security and speed), MailerLite (email), Stripe (payments) and Proton (our email inbox). Stripe may also use information across websites that use its services to prevent fraud.

Yes. Email hello@constellationtrail.com from the address you used with us. We answer within 30 days. We delete your information from our active systems and email list, except records we or our providers must keep by law or for fraud prevention. Backups expire on their normal schedule. If you have a membership, cancel it first from your account page. Deleting your information does not cancel your membership or stop Stripe from billing you.

Unsubscribing stops our marketing emails. Necessary membership and billing notices continue. It does not delete download, payment or consent records, which are kept as described in the privacy notice. We keep your address on a do-not-email list, so you are never added back by mistake.

Yes. We use AI tools to help draft the lessons and to help check them. Facts, quotations and Bible verses are checked against their original sources, and we correct mistakes when we find them. New lessons are reviewed by a person before they are published.

Yes. The pictures on the lessons today are AI-generated illustrations.

We plan to use public-domain art and archive photographs where they exist, and AI-generated illustrations only where they do not. Each AI-generated picture will be labeled under the image.
