The Whole Truth

This is a practice week: the honesty stories become seven days of lived honesty.

Your child may be thinking: “If I tell most of the truth, that is close enough.”

The truth: “Most of the truth is not the whole truth. God asks you to tell all of it, and he helps you.”

God’s Word (Zechariah 8:16, NLT): “But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace.”

Every time a half-truth would be easier than the whole truth, use the steps again.

Keep the line small and concrete. “Be honest” is not a line. “I tell the whole truth, even when a half-truth would be easier” is a line. “I own my mistakes the same day I make them” is a line. “If a mistake lands in my favor, I fix it” is a line. Small and real beats grand and vague, every time.

Choose a safe, kind goal together. Holding your line never means ignoring pain or danger, or not asking for help.

Witness, not enforcer. You sign the Line Card, you ask how it went at supper, and when they slip (they will), you point back at the card, not at them.

Day 7 has three family questions. Ten minutes. Don’t skip it. The debrief is where the week becomes a memory.

Take the challenge yourself, with your own line, on your own card. Nothing teaches honesty like a parent saying out loud, “I was wrong about that, let me fix it.”
